It’s also not a bad move to check out some of the bad decisions that people have made over the decades – and new research from Samsung has just revealed some of the worst interior choices that people have made, showing you just what to avoid.

According to the Daily Mail, the 1970s were considered the worst decade for interior design, according to 38 per cent of those surveyed. It seems that, although they were popular at the time, we’re no longer serious fans of the likes of avocado bathrooms and flying duck wall art. As for the 80s, 22 per cent opted for this as the worst decade, with furry toilet seat covers and pink bathrooms particularly offensive.

“I have lived through the 70s, 80s and 90s and seen interior design trends come and go and it’s fascinating how our tastes have evolved over time. Toilet rugs, rag rolled walls and TV cupboards should all be consigned to the dodgy décor history books,” Daniel Hopwood – president of the British Institute of Interior Design – commented on the findings.

Deciding on the look and feel you want for your new extension before you get the professional builders in is most certainly a good idea, otherwise you might end up with a few regrets. Try to go for timeless design using natural materials and avoiding trends so you won’t have to update your décor too soon.
