The modern look for home interiors means you’ll be needing more than one contemporary frame after you’ve done your digital printing of your favourite photographs. Gallery walls are here to stay, but creating one can be a real pain, trying to master the layout and combination of images all in one.
If you’ve had mixed results on creating a gallery wall in the past and are wary to tackle another, consider these Cheatsheet tips from home décor expert Joanna Gaines, who has seven killer tips to make it not only easy, but also memorable.
First up, she says, make it personal. Of course, you can use personal photographs as well as wall art, but why not frame those special memories, such as a sweet handwritten note from your partner, and include it within your design.
You should also aim for timeless images when choosing wall art. Photographs of your loved ones won’t date as they’re personal, but if you choose wall art you’re going to get sick of quickly, you’ll end up having to replace a whole scheme, rather than just one picture.
If your gallery wall feels a little flat or one dimensional, add some depth to it by including a small picture ledge, with one or more of your frames on it. Also, three dimensional wall art can be added to give your scheme another dimension.
To avoid unnecessary holes in the wall, create a template, says Joanna. Use paper shapes or cardboard cut to the size of the frames, and stick them on the wall with non-marking tape to plot your course for picture hanging.
