Chemical analysis in the UK is an important part of our manufacturing industry, and many processes couldn’t be done without it.

However, the manufacturing industry is warning that its order books are looking a bit short, as Brexit creeps ever closer and nobody is entirely sure what it is going to involve.

There was a modest growth in the manufacturing industry in June compared to May this year. The purchasing managers’ index (PMI) came in at 54.4 in June, up from 54.3 in May. A figure over 50 indicates growth.

Despite this growth faith in the industry is at a seven-month low,  Rob Dobson, a director at HIS Markit told The Telegraph.

“This is a position that cannot be sustained far beyond the immediate horizon. The trend in demand will need to stage a much firmer rebound if a further slowdown in output growth is to be avoided.”

“With industry potentially stuck in the doldrums, the UK economy will need to look to other sectors if GDP growth is to match expectations in the latter half of the year.”

The lack of clarity over what will happen to the UK after it has left the EU has led to a large number of people leaving the UK as the threat of job losses looms closer. This has meant that many industries including health and construction, as well as agriculture, are facing a shortage of workers that are leaving them unable to fulfil demand, at current levels.
