Monochrome makeup isn’t a new trend, in fact for many it’s a tried and tested favourite when it comes to makeup shades. However, like all popular beauty trends people are always looking to find a new take on the classics.

Sheer monochrome is being touted as the next big beauty trend that we’ll see on catwalks, red carpets and Instagram feeds in the coming months, Refinery29 revealed.

This is described as a subtle and natural look using “barely-there pinks, peaches, and sandy shades”.

According to the news provider, it delivers a “cool -girl vibe that’s flattering and purposeful but effortless and low-key”. Yara Shahidi is named as one celebrity who’s got this look down to a tee, thanks to her makeup artist Emily Cheng.

Ms Cheng offered some tips for those who want to create this look themselves. She noted there is even makeup on the market that can give you the powder-gloss combination through one easy to apply product.

The key to making it look effective is in layering textures, so you need matte, gloss and shimmer to achieve the desired impact.

One of Ms Cheng’s top pieces of advice is to not overdo the gloss on your eyelids though, because otherwise your makeup can look messy by the end of the evening. “I take the smallest amount of gloss and gently tap onto the eyelids. I don’t spread it too much because it will do that on its own,” she explained.

Because the sheer monochrome look is quite subtle, you should also make sure you prepare your skin to give it a real glow. Celebrity makeup artist Vincent Oquendo recently told Glamour Magazine that preparing the skin correctly is the key to getting the perfect glowing look.
