Moss – The Latest Office Interiors Trend!

The last few months have brought a beautiful new interiors trend to the fore – biophilia… an aesthetic that focuses on bringing nature indoors, whether that’s through choice of paint colour, the materials used or introducing lots of plantlife to bring spaces to life.

While potted plants always look lovely and you can create stunning indoor jungles by choosing your plants carefully, there’s a new way of creating greener interiors – and that’s through the use of moss.

According to World Architecture News, living green walls are now being seen here, there and everywhere, and moss walls, ceiling tiles, desk dividers and art are all apparently under development, so expect to see these increasingly over the next few months.

Interior designer and space planner Caroline Zampier explains that a preserved moss wall actually needs very little maintenance, and it doesn’t grow or fade – and it doesn’t need to be watered. It also helps keep the air clean, with pollutants clinging to the moss’s surface before the plant’s own bacteria converts it into biomass.

“Moss can also reduce noise by as much as five decibels and save companies money on heating and air conditioning. And, of course, it’s good for the environment because it reduces carbon dioxide, too,” she went on to say.

If you’re not ready for moss walls, there other ways you can achieve a biophilic look and feel, whether at work or at home. Think about natural materials like reclaimed wood and choosing your colours carefully.

Go for earthy shades and organic palettes and think about how different colours relate to nature, with blue hues symbolising sky and water, and browns and greens denoting trees and plants.
