When it comes to picture framing in your Hertfordshire home, there is nothing more annoying than spending hours positioning your favourite pieces of wall art where you want it, banging in the nails, screwing in the screws and feeling like a capable adult, only to stand back at the end of the project to admire your handiwork and find that you’ve not hung anything straight.
You might well think that it’s an easy job and, certainly, if you’re only working with one picture in a frame, it’s not difficult to get it right. But if you have several pieces that you want to work well in conjunction with each other, it can be easier said than done to get it to look exactly as you have in your mind’s eye.
So what can be done about it to make sure that you get it right first time, without any fuss or bother at all?
Firstly, you might like to invest in a spirit level, as this will help you to see that your pictures are straight from the get-go. If you’d rather not have a house full of DIY equipment, you can download apps these days that can help you get the job done as well. You might find, however, that they’re not as accurate as an actual spirit level, but give it a go and see what happens.
When hanging a frame with two brackets on the back, make life easy for yourself by sticking a strip of tape across the back of the frame. Mark where you want the nails or screws to go and then remove the piece of tape and position it on the wall where you want to hang your picture. You can then use your spirit level (or your app) to make sure that the tape is completely straight.
If you have more than one picture you want to put on the wall, simply repeat the taping process and do the same for the second frame, making sure that both pieces of tape are level with each other.
From there, it’s simply a matter of banging in some nails on the dots on the tape, before removing the tape and hanging your pictures up. What on earth could be easier than that? And the best bit about this particular method is that you won’t have lots of holes in your walls that you’ve made by mistake, trying to get your pictures straight.
Don’t forget about people power, however, and if you have big pictures to hang you might find it easier to get the job done if you have an extra pair of helping hands. So rope in friends and family for an afternoon and before you know it, your prized art collection will soon be hanging on the wall for all to see and admire.
