There are likely to be many considerations when you’re planning house extensions in Manchester, but one that you may want to start thinking about is Brexit.

Although you might not realise it, the UK leaving the EU will have an impact on your renovation works, or at the very least on the cost of them.

Property Reporter recently shared research conducted by DiscountFlooringDepot.co.uk, which found that many Brits are rushing to complete large-scale works on their homes ahead of the Brexit deadline in March.

The main reason for this is the rising cost of materials and products, the news provider noted. Large household furnishings, such as sofas, beds and dining sets, were some of the most popular things that people are buying ahead of Brexit.

But electrical items, bathroom fixtures and fittings and real wood and tiled flooring were also on the list – all things you might require if you’re carrying out an extension project at your home.

Paula Gray, designer at the retailer, commented: “A significant number of Britons admit to rushing through their home renovations ahead of Brexit and any potential tariffs that may be enforced on building materials and home accessories on March 29th next year.”

If you haven’t yet decided on a renovation project to undertake, you might want to start with your bathroom. Earlier this month, Property Wire reported on a study by Direct Line Home Insurance, which revealed that homes where the main bathroom is downstairs typically sell for less than those with an upstairs bathroom.

Moving your bathroom upstairs, if this is feasible, could mean more people are interested in buying your home and prevent it from losing six per cent of its value on average.
