The government recently announced a coronavirus vulnerable list to enable those who are most at risk from the illness to get priority online deliveries and food parcels.

However, an investigation by The Guardian has revealed lots of disabilities have been left off the list, which means those with serious health complaints or who cannot easily get to a shop are unable to get their essentials.

Many readers have responded to the report, joining charities and organisations to call for an expansion of the list of 1.5 million people to enable more disabled people to be included.

Londoner NA Le Bren, 37, told the newspaper: “My housemate is severely visually impaired. I use a wheelchair. We are both autistic. I’ve been campaigning since the list went live because it excludes so many of us. I managed to get on the Tesco list a few days ago but the earliest delivery available is 17 May and when I talk to supermarkets they don’t seem to get that the government list is in effect useless.”

While the government set up an online register to enable “extremely vulnerable” people to access food parcels from their councils or be given priority delivery slots, a huge number of conditions are being rejected.

According to the news provider, these include heart disease, tetraplegia, motor neurone disease, myalgic encephalomyelitis, muscular dystrophy and those receiving chemotherapy treatment for cancer.
