Hopefully, if you were inspired by the start of a new year to make a few health and lifestyle changes, you’ve stuck to your guns and your new year’s resolutions haven’t fallen by the wayside just yet.
It’s very easy to feel motivated in January after the excesses of Christmas and New Year’s Eve, but this feeling of motivation can dip once the month has come to an end. And it’s also very easy to lose motivation when you look in the mirror and don’t see that much has happened… which is all too possible after just four weeks of eating well and getting some exercise.
You shouldn’t expect to see instant results and all too often, this is why people abandon their resolutions so early on in the year. It’s all about setting yourself realistic goals and targets, and trusting in the fact that you’re doing yourself an awful lot of good even if you can’t quite see the results just yet.
No doubt your Matthew Roberts personal trainer will have said the phrase “trust the process” to you at some point during a training session. Perhaps you hear this all the time! It can be quite a useful mantra to follow and it can help keep you on track when you might be feeling a bit discouraged. In a few months’ time, after you’ve put your trust in said process, we bet you can do all sorts of strength and training drills that you couldn’t do before!
In the meantime, focus on what you can see and feel, whether that’s clearer skin, more energy, elevated mood or an interest in healthier food. After all, it’s not just about dropping a dress size, you know!
