Another trend that couples are increasingly turning to is micro-weddings. These are typically for 40 or fewer guests, which means even more personalisation and typically a higher spend per guest too.

Inclusive menus for food and drink are also on the rise, with brides and grooms increasingly sensitive to people’s dietary requirements, whether they’d prefer to avoid alcohol, are vegan or have an allergy.

When it comes to venue decor, make sure you think about lighting as well as table settings. There are lots of ways to be creative with your lighting, from candles and fairy lights, to hanging light installations and tube lighting.

At the other end of the scale, Goldsmiths recently shared what people consider to be the most annoying wedding trends. At the top of the list is complicated hashtags (43.5 per cent said these were pointless), followed by donut walls and poems on the wedding invite.
