In a sign that life is starting to return to relative normality in Manchester and the rest of the UK, Manchester Museum and the Whitworth art gallery have just announced that they will both be opening their doors to the public once again from September 16th.

Both venues will adhere fully to all the latest advice from the government relating to a covid-secure reopening, which includes hand sanitising stations at entrance points, the wearing of masks for anyone who isn’t exempt from this and the enforcing of social distancing measures.

The museum has also included other steps, such as a new one-way route around the Natural History galleries, so that people can still see all their favourite attractions with ease.

Entry is still free for both venues, but people are being urged to book a timed ticket before they visit so that social distancing rules can be followed. Those unable to access the internet can visit in person and a member of the team will book them in upon arrival if any time slots are available.

Director of Manchester Museum Esme Ward said: “For the past few months we’ve continued to connect with the public through innovative and engaging ways online via our digital platforms, #mminquarantine and live streams, and this is something we intend to keep up.

“But we know nothing is better than welcoming our visitors to the museum in person. It’s beautiful to be back and we can’t wait for visitors to return.”

According to the Museums Association, venues in England will be able to host tour groups of up to 30 people as long as mitigation measures are implemented, which will certainly be welcome news to many such establishments looking to recover from the pandemic.
