If you’re planning to revamp your bathroom in the coming months you’ll no doubt be looking for inspiration. There are plenty of options out there, but if you want to create a space that’s unique and personal to you, it’s worth experimenting with colour and patterns.

In fact, one interior designer believes that bathrooms are the ideal place to be a little bit more creative and braver with your design choices.

Speaking to Living Etc, Lucy Barlow, one of the founders of Barlow & Barlow, an interior design practice, explained why this is a good place to try something different.

“Secondary rooms such as guest bathrooms and cloakrooms are not used as regularly, making them great places to experiment with bolder colour and pattern choices,” she asserted.

It’s a good chance to bring some new colours into your home and see if you like them before you start introducing them to other rooms. Or you could keep your bathroom as a colourful and vibrant space to make it really stand out.

Ms Barlow noted that there are plenty of ways to introduce more colour and pattern, aside from the obvious options of wallpaper, tiles and paint. “We love using decorative ceramic sinks in our bathrooms,” she stated.

Choosing ceramic tiles with an exciting pattern is another good option, she suggested. In terms of colour schemes, Ms Barlow had some recommendations. “Colours that work well are blushes and pastels for a more country chic palette, or if you fancy something more tropical we love the boldness of our signature pink and green scheme.”

If you’ve got a small bathroom, one of the challenges when you’re picking Barton on Sea bathrooms is fitting everything in without making the space feel cluttered.

Compact shelving units are a great addition if your bathroom doesn’t have much storage and they’re easy to find once you’ve chosen the bigger items like your suite.

Another piece of advice is to use mirrors to create the illusion of a larger space and to bounce light around the room. You’re likely to have at least one mirror in a bathroom anyway, but think about including decorative mirrors as well as functional ones in your design.
